Race and Law Research Wiki
About the Wiki
This wiki is an electronic research guide on sources in race and law, created and
administered by the H. Douglas Barclay Law Library at the Syracuse University College of Law.
It derives from a research guide (RaceandLawResearchGuide 2008.pdf) that was
prepared to support Syracuse University College of Law Professor Leslie Bender's Race and
Law seminar. The idea of a wiki arose from our desire to reach out to colleagues across
the SyracuseUniversity campus and beyond and invite them to collaborate on building
an inter-disciplinary resource that will be of value to all researchers interested in issues
related to race and the law.
The wiki has been a collaborative effort from its inception. Professor Leslie
Bender shared many resources with me from her Blackboard course site and
generously offered guidance with the scope and organization of the research
guide on which this wiki is based. Librarians Angela Williams (Syracuse University
Martin Luther King Library) and Bonnie Ryan (Syracuse University E.S. Bird Library)
have offered their expert knowledge and support to improve and expand the wiki.
The Reference Librarians at the Syracuse University College of Law have shared ideas
and provide ongoing assistance and guidance. Finally, Professor Law and Associate
Dean, Barclay Law Library Thomas R. French has provided financial and
administrative support.
Thanks to all who have contributed and to those yet to contribute!

Content and Organization
Because of the scope of the subject, topics for inclusion were based initially on
Professor Leslie Benders' Race and Law course syllabus and broad subject
areas addressed in the Derrick Bell's Race, Racism and American Law, 4th ed.
For each topic entry, researchers will currently find bibliographies and research
guides; web resources and databases; and, legislative and administrative materials.
The wiki also includes sections on statistics, how to find books and articles,
research support on the Syracuse University campus, and suggestions for relevant news sources
and blogs. Emphasis in all categories is on electronic resources; however, some references
to print sources have also been included.
Licensed electronic resources of the H. Douglas Barclay Law Library, the
Syracuse University Library, and the Martin Luther King Library, may have
access restrictions. Many of the titles cited in the wiki have call numbers
for materials housed in libraries at Syracuse University. Borrowing privileges
vary. Contact your local library for information about holdings.
